One of the world’s most successful patent licensing experts, Dooyong Lee pioneered the patent licensing industry for inventors and patent owners 20+ years ago. He has built four “contingency” licensing companies (i.e., fees and expenses payable upon success) and generated $1.2+ billion for 250+ clients.
Before founding Aequitas, he was the CEO of Acacia Research Group. During his eight-year tenure, Acacia increased annual revenue from $4 million to $251 million, net income from -$6 million to $60 million, and market cap from $110 million to $2.1 billion.
Before building licensing companies, he was a corporate licensing executive. He spearheaded transformative process re-engineering efforts at AT&T/Lucent Technologies, whose annual licensing revenue subsequently increased 5x in six years to $500+ million.
He is a two-time recipient of the Bell Labs Exceptional Contribution Award and the inventor of the ubiquitous “estimated wait time announcement” call center feature.
Our Business
We help inventors and patent owners collect damages/royalties from infringers. In a typical arrangement, we become an exclusive licensing agent and take responsibility for licensing and enforcement at our expense. Upon successful monetization, we share the net proceeds 50/50 with a client after reimbursement of out-of-pocket costs.
We currently manage 20+ licensing/litigation campaigns. We have obtained numerous seven- to eight-figure settlements and verdicts (including two eight-figure verdicts in 2022 alone).
